Global Underwater Explorers DIR Fundamentals Class A

This DIR-F class was scheduled to run 4,5,6 September 2004.  Typhoon Songda had a difference of opinion with us on scheduling so it ran 4,11,12 September 2004.  We were real happy just to get it done before the instructor, Sonya Tittle had to fly back to Florida.  A close call!

The day before class was to start, Typhoon Songda was beginning to make her prescence known. Maeda Flats was no longer "flat"

Class A begins 4 September 2004

Dave, Stephen, Eric, Red, Jorge, and Shane begin the journey

Sonya does her best to break the ice during the first lecture

Shane and Jorge sit quietly trying to fool Sonya into thinking they are meek

Eric and Red...well you need a chainsaw to break the ice here

Dave and Stephen, with these guys there's never a dull moment

Doesn't look like a classroom. Typhoon Songda has everything on hold...except a little sightseeing

Sonya braves the increasing winds to take a look at the building waves

Sonya bracing herself long enough to get off a few shots

Here comes the typhoon, DIR-F Class A is now on hold.

Typhoon is gone, but lots of rain drives our boys inside for some drills

Sonya points out the keys to proper finning techniques

Really Jorge, your ankles can twist this way!

Okay, for those that didn't quite get it the first time

Dry land drills on the soggy pool deck

So this is what a long hose is for...cool!

More instruction on the proper use of the long hose

I don't think Jorge and Shane are into the dry drills

Okay, we've been in the pool finally, the sun is out and now we are getting cooked, oh and we are learning how to deploy our bags or SMB

Sonya making sure everyone understands how to deploy a bag or SMB

Back in the classroom that evening for a healthy snack and video reviews

Eric is sporting a new racing stripe and is chuckling at the antics on video

Unidentified Fried Object

Everyone relaxed after the final day of diving waiting for their turn on video to laugh and learn

Discussion prompted by part of the video review. Healthy snacks again.

Stephen looks a bit tired after a long weekend of class

Video review of S-drills on the days dives

Shane, you're supposed to look at the video. Was that an oops?

Shane relives his out of air drill where he had the best hand signals of the day

Eric trying to mind meld with the video review.
